This seems to unnecessarily restrict guilds to certain alignments. Also why the hate for shamans? Don't people think they are awesome?

If you want a class that can find a group a basher(now only warriors) is usually welcome. I think all classes will have their place but not enough people play warriors these days.

It's really about what you prefer. Casters have lots of advantages, especially if you're a casual player, but you'll have to book hunt... and that's boring AF. Tanks/thieves are super easy to legend because you just have to train skills. Scouts are trash, don't play one. Paladins/DKs/Barbs end up tanking.

Also, ... welcome back ?!

Is there a feel of any class being underplayed this wipe or through the last few? What classes are overplayed? Preferably not including healers.

I would hate to invest time into this artifact of addiction just to pick a class every idiot plays and no one wants to group.

Questions and Answers / Re: Parry help

To train parry, parry once. If you fail, parry again. If you get a message saying you attempt to parry, type nothing (very tempermental skill).

Once parrying, it will attempt to continue, let it continue until it says you stop parrying. Weapon skills matter, so use a trained weapon. Also, + parry gear is helpful to start.

Getting past awful is hard, once its at poor it picks up speed.
General Discussion / Skill and spell transparency

Would really appreciate to understand how the skill/spells actually work. This should be included in the help files

For instance: Dk has 3 stances, skills and spells do different things in these stances, but what exactly is unknown and can never be fully known.

The way some skills train are not accurate, for instance Field Medic is not as simple as spamming cures in combat.

Been helping some newbies level lately, and the amount of answers I have for things (after 20years of playing) is nominal. That one makes you hit harder, that one makes you take less damage. It would be nice if we were privy to better answers.

Why is all of this so hidden from the players?
Game Ideas / Guild rewrite idea

Been kicking this idea around in my head.

Level 1 class options are: Warrior, Cleric, Scout, Mage. When leveling up from level 10, you get to chose which direction to specialize your character's class, partly depending on alignment.

Warrior -> Barbarian (no lawful), Basher, Paladin (LG) / Dark Knight (LE), Monk (LN; hand-to-hand ninja style)

Cleric -> Priest (lawful only), Druid (neutral only), Shaman (chaotic only)

Scout -> Thief (no lawful), Assassin (evil only), Archer

Mage -> White Robe (LG/NG only), Red Robe (LN/N only), Black Robe (LE/NE only), Renegade (chaotic only)

Would totally scrap scouts, and do a major rework of Shaman class as part of this. Or possibly dump Shaman entirely and let Priests be chaotic as well, and give shaman spells to Priests/Robed mages/Renegades.

Might need to slightly redo the alignment spectrum to fix it to work as a two-axis system, instead of the linear system it has always been.

Also maybe change "warrior" to "Fighter" and use "Warrior" for "Basher" instead.

Generally speaking, you can't make money on Arctic, or you'll be much closer to engaging in copyright infringement, since the DragonLance stuff is protected IP. I think, but am not sure, that Margaret Weis bought it back from WOTC a while back. Anyways, so long as it's free, there's a good "fair use" argument. That begins to erode when you start taking "donations" even if it's just for costs.

JJ and I, and others, have been discussing expanding the platform through a potential port to Slack / Facebook. Still in the discussion / feasibility study stages, though.
