No News is good News
« on: April 21, 2014, 01:07:54 PM »
I wanted to throw up a little no news post, just to let you know that we are still in our lube development cycle. We are well underway in class design and are in the process of fleshing out roles and mechanics for classes. At this point, we really don't have enough to share with you but we should soon. There are a lot of changes that will happen with classes when we are done and we are taking a solid approach to the design of each to ensure we hit as close to the mark as possible.

All subject to change, here is each defined class and the role(s) it will have:

  • Barbarian: Tank/Melee DPS
  • Dark Knight: Tank/Hybrid DPS
  • Ranger: Tank/Melee DPS
  • Warrior: Tank/Melee DPS
  • Cleric: Healing/Spell DPS
  • Druid: Healing/Spell DPS
  • Paladin: Healing/Hyrbid DPS
  • Shaman: Healing/Spell DPS
  • Thief: Melee DPS
  • Black Robe: Spell DPS
  • Red Robe: Spell DPS
  • White Robe: Spell DPS

Notes: Hybrid DPS = mixture of melee and spell dps

I apologize for the lack of transparency or ability to add more details, but we just haven't locked them in yet so stay tuned.

Ranger

I would have thought ranger class would be more like Tank/Hybrid DPS (ie druidish/mage type spells).

If you look at the list, it seems we have way too many classes doing the same thing.

Here is how i would "differentiate" each class if I'm limit to one sentence each. And build the class ground up from these themes.

barbarian: Ability to direct incoming melee towards self and stay alive.
warrior: Ability to deal lag on enemies to disable them
Ranger: Ability to find target's location and superb with bows
Dark Knight: Ability to use unholy means to disable enemies
Paladin: Ability to use holy means to increase efficiency of the group
Cleric: Ability to efficiently keep the group alive
Shaman: Ability to dish out curses to debuff enemies
Druid: Ability to call the elements to destroy and protect
White robe: Ability to apply buff and remove debuff on group
Red robe: Ability to enchant and create illusions
Black robe: Ability to apply debuff (mainly negative plane type spells) on enemies
Thief: Ability to set variety of traps during and outside combat

Nah.  My main problem with current classes are that they are over-specialized.  I think Hoss and Aristox are going the right direction.

Hrm.. Don't all those classes already do those rolls? It doesn't look new.

white robes don't currently do melee dps, they moreso do hybrid/status magic and have all of prism as a damage spell.  rangers aren't currently considered a tank class (although oceans like dennis seem to break the mold)

Having paladins as a non-tank class is also a bit of an upheaval.

maybe that was a brain fart and rangers and paladins accidently got switched in the eager fervor of the moment.

would seem the ability to hit with an offhand qualifies as melee dps being shamans are not rated as such. But what makes me wonder the most is the fact that paladins are classed as healing. makes me wonder being that the group size will be limited to 5 how effective as a healer they will be. hyb dps i guess just tells you that the class will get some form of argo spell as well as being able to hit with an offhand.

damage per second.

although i always used to think it was damn poor sucker and when people used that acronym i responded by trying to lure and tended to break aggro on mobs.

I love that EVERY class is DPS...
Paladins as a healing/dps without tank ability is definitely a big change...

So...rangers.

Are bows being removed?

If not: are the "ranged" flags being removed and rangers will wear the same gear as other melee dps types? Or was ranger just flagged "melee dps" here because no other class is technically a ranged class? Are bows going to just be considered (in the game files) as another type of melee weapon with a higher skill cap?

If so: Are new ranger only weapons going to become available? Will rangers be a dual wield or 2h class at this point in the dev cycle?
